The Codebreaker brand first appeared on the Sega Dreamcast relatively late in that console's lifecycle. Shortly after the Dreamcast release, development began on a PlayStation 2 version. After version six hit the market, Fire International abruptly ended their partnership with Pelican to develop the newly Mad Catz-acquired GameShark. In response, Pelican Accessories assembled an internal development team and continued producing future versions of Codebreaker.
