Indrajal Comics was launched in March 1964 by Bennett, Coleman & Co., the publisher of The Times of India. The series was the brainchild of a group of young editors who wanted to capitalize on the growing popularity of comic strips in India. The first 32 issues exclusively featured stories of Lee Falk’s The Phantom, a masked crime-fighter who quickly became a household name.
