IMAX, too, is aggressively preparing for this ultra-high-definition future. At a recent panel, executives noted that Warner Bros. has already digitized 35 to 40 films in 8K resolution or higher. IMAX itself has been "preparing for 8K for 50 years" because its large film format provides a native resolution far beyond today's standards. While feature films are currently mastered in 4K for theaters and home release, these 8K scans are being stockpiled. As IMAX executive Greg Ciaccio noted, the 8K ecosystem may very well develop faster in homes than in cinemas, because large televisions and VR headsets will soon demand that level of detail. imax film scan
