The story begins with Kim Seong-geun (played by Jung Jae-young), a man crushed by staggering debt and a failed relationship. Desperate, he jumps off a bridge into the Han River in Seoul. Instead of drowning, he wakes up washed ashore on , a small, uninhabited, and strictly restricted ecological wilderness island directly under the bridge. Because he cannot swim and his phone battery dies, he becomes stranded in full view of the bustling Seoul metropolis. He eventually gives up on escaping and decides to embrace a primitive life on the island, finding a new purpose in gathering garbage and attempting to cook black bean noodles ( Jajangmyeon ) from scratch.
