Winra1n takes a different technical approach. It installs a WSL 2 Linux distribution, builds a custom kernel with USB support, and enables USB/IP forwarding to run checkra1n within WSL. The tool starts a USB/IP server on Windows that captures the connected iDevice in DFU mode, attaches the device to the USB/IP client in WSL, and runs checkra1n in command-line mode. This requires Windows 10 version 2004 or later and is considerably more complex than the bootable USB method. The developer explicitly warns that this has not yet been fully tested and recommends using it only on testing devices. : This is the most popular choice
Since checkra1n doesn't run on Windows, the community developed "live" Linux environments that are lightweight and strictly built to run checkra1n. These are effectively portable because they run entirely from a USB stick without installing anything on your hard drive. Guide: Running Checkra1n 0
