The defining characteristic of Sexuele Voorlichting is its refusal to obscure human anatomy. The director juxtaposed clinical instructional narration against graphic close-ups. The video contains extensive full-frontal nudity, unsimulated masturbation scenes by male and female models, and an explicit depiction of sexual intercourse in the missionary position.

In deze periode werd seks op televisie steeds normaler, met programma's zoals "Sex met Angela" die werden uitgezonden. "Sexuele Voorlichting" uit 1991 past precies in deze trend, maar gaat een stap verder. Het is een uiterst pragmatische, medische documentaire die schaamte probeert weg te nemen door simpelweg de feiten te tonen. De Nederlandse historicus Paul Schnabel merkte in 1990 al op dat de bijdrage van kunst en cultuur aan de seksuele emancipatie onderbelicht bleef, een leemte waar dit soort voorlichtingsfilms onbedoeld in voorzien.
