As environmental regulations tightened, predicting particulate matter (PM) and soot emissions became a top priority. Chemkin-Pro's Particle Tracking Module was designed for this purpose. It simulated the full lifecycle of particles, including inception (nucleation), growth (via surface reactions), coagulation, and oxidation. The module offered two methods: a sectional method that directly provides detailed particle size distributions, and a moment method that predicts statistical averages like mean particle diameter. This allowed engineers to either precisely design a particle production process or accurately predict the mass and size of soot particles emitted from a combustor.
