Born into a poor peasant family in Kangthei, Mary’s early life is defined by poverty and the hardships of rural Manipur. Her initial encounter with boxing happens by chance when she discovers a boxing glove in the aftermath of a street fight. Impressed by the dedication of local coach Narjit Singh (played by Sunil Thapa), she begs him to train her.
