This paper argues that the unauthorized PDF of Inferno functions as a paradoxical preservation mechanism: while it compromises the material and chromatic integrity of Barlowe’s paintings, it also democratizes access to a cult artifact and extends the work’s infernal geography into digital liminality. Examining the PDF as a remediation of Hell, this study analyzes how screen-based viewing alters the phenomenological experience of Barlowe’s hierarchy of demons and damned souls.
